People are working hard all over England to make their communities cleaner, safer and greener.

WHO'S GOT THE TOP COMMUNITY SPACE IN YOUR REGION?

The transformation of a field used by fly tippers, dog walkers, motorcyclists (and occasionally, the odd burglar as a getaway route), into an integrated community garden is one of the winning regional projects in our ‘A Picture of Change’ competition.

Rother Community Action Partnership from the East Midlands is one of nine winning regional entries announced today who will go through to the national final in the search to find England’s top community space. The regional winners will receive £1000 and have the chance to win a further £5,000 if they are successful in the national final. The overall winner will be announced at the ‘Delivering Sustainable Communities Summit’ in Manchester on 1 February.

The competition, run by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, in partnership with Groundwork and sponsorship from Barclays SiteSavers, ran for four weeks on this web site towards the end of last year.

Young people from the local community hard at work

Local groups were invited to tell their story in words and pictures on how they have made their community a cleaner, safer and greener place to live in.

Over 400 entries were received from a variety of rural and urban projects covering areas such as tackling anti-social behaviour, the creation of community gardens and allotments and neighbourhood tidy-ups. All entries will be published on this site in the near future. We hope these projects will inspire you by showing you ways in which you can make your community a place to be proud of.
